India Reduced Oil Imports from Russia by 40% in January 2026

Supply volumes have fallen to a minimum since June 2022 — 859,000 barrels per day (3.68 million tons), according to a review by the international price agency Argus, which RBC has accessed.

Part of the decrease in supplies to India is attributed to increased pressure from the United States. New Delhi aims to reduce oil imports from Russia in order to secure a trade agreement with Washington. At the same time, India is diversifying its raw material purchases and has resumed buying Venezuelan oil after a long hiatus.
